If you’ve been keeping up with my blog posts lately you’ll know I’ve come to adding a few news posts from around the web on this subject. I’ve got a couple more today that are new and updated, so let me know what you think of em…

Meet the 2011 ND/NF Filmmakers: “Hit So Hard” Director P. David Ebersole

It turns out, the film co-starred a young Paula Abdul and, partly because of that, it is being remastered to Blu-ray as we speak…but I digress. When I was on set, the directors let me sit on the dolly and listen to the cans on the Nagra and I was … Read More…

Also, of course, there are still potential licensing issues with using the HD-DVD or Blu-Ray software formats. You may be less likely to get caught (because the replicator may not trouble to find out what you are burning onto your DVD-ROMs), … Read More…

The new year is here and with it is a new cropping of Blu Ray Copy Software apps just in time for everyone that is switching over to the new format. The ability to backup a Blu Ray movie is not as easy as it was with it’s older brother DVD. The early 2000′s introduced the world an easy way to make a duplicate of their favorite movies rather easily.

Today the practice of making a digital backup is commonplace and can be done with a few mouse clicks. I don’t recommend making backups and giving them out as presents and don’t even think about selling them, that would be bad. Now enter the Blu-Ray format, yes it’s 1080p glory look stunning on HD TV sets and once again we have a physical disc the same size as a DVD and CD. One major difference that most care about is the price. Blu-Ray movies average around $25 for new Hollywood hits compared to $17 for the DVD counterpart. Thus the need to protect this investment.

This review will go over the best Blu Ray Copy Software apps that are currently available.

DVDFab Blu Ray Copy

Updated for 2012 Blu Ray protections. The latest version will copy all the latest BD movies including Avatar which introduced a new protection scheme, but DVDFab took care of that right away. There really is no other when it comes down to making successful blu ray backups. DVDFab is simply the best. But don’t take my word for it, try it yourself.

Latest MacBook Pro CPU runs so hot it can boil water – Yahoo! News

Buy a Mac and you know you’re getting the state of the art when it comes to components (except for a Blu-ray optical drive — Steve Jobs hates Blu-ray). And that’s a good thing, since you’re probably paying a fortune for the privilege.

But as many an early adopter can tell you, when you push the envelope, unintended consequences can be the result.

Case in point: The 17-inch MacBook Pro uses the latest CPU from Intel, the Core i7-620M, an incredibly powerful chip already becoming prized by users for its performance. Those who buy a 17-inch laptop are the most performance-obsessed of the bunch, willing to sacrifice portability for something that will blow the benchmarks out of the water.

But with the i7-based MacBook, there’s a bit of a snag: The i7 is a fast chip, but perhaps it’s too fast for this chassis. The chip runs hot. So hot, in fact, that users report the whole laptop gets uncomfortably warm to the touch — with one source reporting it is “almost too hot” to touch.

PC Authority did some sleuthing to figure out exactly how hot the insides were when the machine was under heavy loads, and the results are alarming: One test showed the chip literally burning up at 101 degrees Celsius, hot enough to boil water.

Other computers using the same CPU don’t get nearly this hot, so what’s the problem? Chalk it up to the Mac’s unique design and unconventional approach to cooling.

The all-aluminum design of the Mac isn’t just for looks, it’s also to help the interior of the notebook cool off. Rather than vent heat through a copper pipe and out a hole in the side or bottom of the machine, the entire body of a Mac is used to cool the machine as the heat radiates through the body and out into the air (although fans are also used to supplement this). This works most of the time, but when the machine gets really hot, it just can’t keep up, and that’s when the laptop gets uncomfortably hot — so much so that PC Authority had to run some of its tests with the machine on its side so that the base of the laptop would be exposed to cooling air instead of an insulating table.

When a machine overheats, several things can happen. Typically the chip will automatically start to run in a slower, “throttled” mode, so less heat is generated. But crashes and component failures can also occur as heat makes the system unstable.

There’s no word from Apple on a fix — or even if one is possible — but power users should take note. Consider a cooling base or at least a stand to elevate your MacBook when you need all the power it has to offer.

While streaming video services such as Netflix have lost consumer confidence by raising their prices, Blu-ray continues to make inroads into U.S. households now that more affordable Blu-ray media players have encouraged consumers to turn from DVD. In 2011, Blu-ray disc sales in the U.S. increased by 35%, and overall global sales are up 45% since 2010. The next year promises further growth, as analysts have predicted that Blu-Ray will ultimately outstrip DVD in 2012.

Blu-Ray for Film

Film enthusiasts are especially looking forward to 2012, as distributors are planning to release several hotly-anticipated titles for the Blu-ray media format. This month, for instance, the Criterion Collection announced that it will be releasing a four disc set in March containing three new titles as well as Blu-ray upgrades for Martin Scorsese’s The Last Temptation of Christ, Roy Ward Baker’s A Night to Remember and David Lean’s Brief Encounter. Not only will these discs offer HD picture quality, but will also contain a variety of extras such as interviews, essays and commentaries.

Blu-Ray for TV

TV show collectors will not be left behind, either, as CBS Entertainment has announced that it plans to release seasons from Star Trek: The Next Generation starting in the month of January. Instead of simply converting from videotape to Blu-Ray media, the company plans to use original film negatives in order to produce the high-definition picture quality long desired by fans. The first disc, which includes the pilot episode “Encounter at Farpoint,” is expected to become available in stores by the end of next month.

Blu-Ray Boxed Sets

Other anticipated titles for 2012 include the Indiana Jones series, Titanic, Jaws, Finding Nemo, the complete Blu-Ray Star Wars saga and the definitive boxed set for the Harry Potter series, giving consumers several great reasons to purchase a Blu-ray player this holiday season.

More Affordable Blu-Ray Players

Those interested in finding a great Blu-ray player for 2012 should also be pleased, as more affordable prices and advances in technology have led to a variety of models with high performance and great features. The Oppo BDP-83, for example, has been praised by reviewers for its ability to play nearly every kind of optical disc available, from DVDs to less-common SACDs. It also loads and plays Blu-ray media at blazing fast speeds and offers a multitude of connectivity options for users with older systems.

Blu-Ray in 3-D

More importantly, the growing popularity of 3D movies has led to an increase in the demand for home theater devices that utilize this technology. While 3D Blu-ray players are more expensive than their DVD counterparts, they produce unmatched audio and video quality that will make the most out of any 3D HDTV. Sony’s BDP S770, for instance, is expected to be popular because it offers many features such as multiple streaming services, remote connectivity for Apple products and 1GB of storage space – all at a lower price when compared to other models.

With these upcoming products, Blu-ray’s once uncertain future now looks secure as more film and television companies switch to Blu-ray media to release their titles. While competition remains with streaming services, consumers who want the best picture quality will turn to Blu-ray.

Burning VIDEO_TS folder to blu-ray disc?

I have successfully merged a set of DVDs (TV Series) into a single VIDEO_TS folder with menus pointing to each episode but it is too big to fit onto a normal dvd so i plan to burn it onto a BD-RE 50gb disc. How can i burn this movie on to it? What should i convert it into to be able to burn onto a blu-ray disc whilst keeping the menu's? Please help, i am really confused!

Back with more news for you today. It’s amazing how much good information there is on this stuff out there if you know where to look. Three in particular that I found really valuable were…

Dual-layer Blu-ray discs can hold 50GB of data, but Pioneer's latest writer can burn more than double that amount. With support for the BDXL standard, the BDR-206MBK can burn up to 128GB on a single quad-layer disc. Because the format is so new, … Read More…
